Community Awareness Day LOCATION Change
Due to hotter weather coming our way, the June 25, 2022 Community Awareness Day location has been changed to the Park near the tennis courts. Same time frame of 10am-2pm, but come over to the park and meet your neighbors and community. CPR training will still be in the community center, spots available if you want to participate. focused on community connection, education, and safety. This free event will be hosted at the Scott Lake
Community Center & Ball Field, Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 10am-2pm. Refreshments will be available.

neighborhood leaders in person, learn more about community work, and sign up to volunteer! Fun &
engaging kids activities will be available.

We are hosting FREE CPR Compression Training classes through Thurston County Medic One,
education on Emergency Preparedness from Thurston County Emergency Management, information
about the upcoming Fire Levy vote from West Thurston Fire, home ownership safety education, and
more!

Child Safety
Intercity Transit’s Walk N Roll program and the Child Care Action Council’s Safe Kids Thurston County
program will install a temporary traffic garden at the Scott Lake Community Center. A traffic garden is a
miniature streetscape that allows children to practice bicycle and pedestrian skills in a safe and fun
environment. Scott Lake youth are invited to ride their bicycle or scooter through the traffic garden on
June 25. All riders must wear a properly fitted helmet. While youth ride in the traffic garden, encourage
them to practice the skills below:
- Ride on the right side of the road.
- Look left, right, left at intersections.
- Stop at stop signs.
- Hand signal before making a left turn.
- Hand signal before making a right turn.
- Hand signal before stopping.
- Wear your helmet.
Additionally, we will provide child safety tips and activities via tabling and activity stations for the duration
of the event addressing key child safety concerns: bicycle, water, school bus, and general safety.

Attention! Scott Lake Fish Stocked
In preparation to our annual Kids Fishing Derby, Scott Lake was stocked today. We are closing access to the dock to discourage fishing between today and the morning of 5/21.
Please refrain from fishing during these couple days as the benefit is for our kids.

Last Update-Water Break on Entree View
The water break has been fixed. As we’ve said, it’s not necessary to do a boil water notice. This is because we didn’t have to depressurize the system. If you notice some air in your faucets, run the water for a few minutes to flush it out.
Water was turned back on for the community and we’ve been advised that a water boil won’t be necessary. Water has been shut off on Entree View and Bonavista to perform the repairs.
KCL, our water repair company is on site and working on the break. We apologize for the water being turned off, that wasn’t our intention and we didn’t ask for that to happen. NWS was first on scene and decided to turn the water off without approval. We’ve since turned it back on and your water might be dirty for a bit.
Without explaining in total detail, due to not having all the information yet. Some work was being performed on a vacant lot and a water pipe was broken on the SLMC side. We’ve investigated the break and an emergency technician is in route to take care of it. We’re not sure yet if the they’ll repair it totally or just stop the leak for today. If they only stop the leak, a repair will have to occur at some point this week. We just don’t know yet until the tech arrives to let us know what can be done. We also don’t know yet if a water boil notice will need to occur. If you live on Entree View, you might experience low pressure or dirty water.
Annual Meeting on May 14 @ 10AM
Once a year the SLMC Board of Trustees meets to share the past years events, accomplishments and hurdles. We’ll also share our visions for the coming year.
Traditionally, this is also the time where we vote for additional Trustees. We’ve communicated the available seats on April 1st to get a call for candidates. The deadline for candidates was April 21st. This was mainly in part due to preparing a ballot, the bios of the candidate(s) and mailing it out before our mailing deadline of April 28th. This year we had a Trustee resign shortly after the March meeting and this Trustees seat was due to expire this year. In addition. two more seats are due to expire this year. There were three seats total that candidates could have put interest in. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any interested candidates. So we won’t be conducting a vote for candidates on a ballot.
We hope to be voting on the budget for 2022-2023. In order for a vote to take place, a quorum of the membership must be present first, either in person or by proxy. According to our bylaws, Article 5, section 3, 20% of the membership is required to vote on the transaction of business. Each property is entitled to one vote only. If you can’t attend the annual meeting and want your voice to be heard, you can fill out the “Homeowner Proxy” form and submit to the office. We request that all proxies be submitted by 5/11. This will give SLMC the opportunity to validate the proxy.
We will be conducting a Q&A period at the meeting, answering questions submitted via email and then taking questions from the floor. All questions and answers will be made available online after the meeting.

2022-2023 Budget Details
We’ve completed the budget details with explanations of the categories, a Q&A section and a future outlook of SLMC finances. If you have any questions, please refrain from turning to social media because they won’t get answered there. Instead, send your question to the office email and we’ll gather them to answer at the annual meeting. This way we cut down on answering the same question over and over. We’ll post the questions and answers too, so others can see. You can open the detailed budget here.
2022-2023 Budget Summary
The SLMC Board of Trustees has approved the Operations and Reserve Budgets. We plan to discuss the budget with the community at the Annual Board Meeting on May 14th @ 10am. We also hope that the community ratifies the budget at the annual meeting. We will distribute this summary to each community members mailbox and also make available here. If you have further questions about the summary or want a more detailed version in a spreadsheet format, please reach out to the office to obtain it.
Postponed Water System Work and Outage
The scheduled work for this week and the water shutoff on 4/27 is postponed until further notice. According to our contractor KCL, they haven’t received all the necessary parts to complete the work due to supply chain issues.
We will continue to communicate when this work is ready to be scheduled and plan the work to minimize as much water outage as possible.
