Thurston County Commissioner Tye Menser and Public Works staff have graciously agreed to a public
meeting with our Drainage District regarding the periodic flooding issues we have. We have flat ground
so nothing is going to fully solve our flooding problem but there may be steps that can be taken to
reduce the severity. We’ve worked with the Conservation District and County engineers for years to get
professional recommendations but have yet to get anything actionable other than clearing out
temporary blockages as soon as possible.

We view this as an opportunity to give the community a brief history of our efforts to date; hear any
suggestions the County or other experts may have; and most importantly hear from our residents. At a
minimum we hope everyone will walk away with a better understanding of the problem and the
complexity of potential solutions. No decisions will be on the agenda – just trying to get our arms around
the problem and potential solutions.

Again, we must be realistic when it comes to our flat ground but let’s respectfully hear everyone’s
thoughts – there may be at least a partial solution we haven’t thought of yet. Please mark your
calendars for 5 PM on November 30, 2022.
.
Your Scott Lake Drainage District Commissioner
