Blue-Green Algae Results for Scott Lake

From your Thurston County Environmental Health Division

April 18, 2016

Dear Scott Lake Residents and Lake Users,

We have received the results from the algae sample taken on April 13th. The preliminary algae toxin result for the sample was below the health advisory limit for both Microcystin and Anatoxin-a.

There is no Advisory in effect at this time

Because it is unknown when an algae bloom becomes toxic, please avoid contact with lake water that has visible algae or algae scum on the surface.  Keep pets and children out of the water.  When fishing, it is safest to catch-and-release any fish caught during a toxic algae bloom.

We are asking residents to call if you see algae scum on the shoreline. If you can collect a sample, please use a clean glass jar. Label and refrigerate the sample and  contact our office for pickup or delivery directions. We will continue to send samples for toxin testing if the blue-green algae bloom continues.

Please pass this information on to your neighbors.  More information about blue-green algae can be found on our website

If you have any questions please feel free to call us at  360-867-2626.

Sincerely,
Water Quality Staff
